Loving Whiskey
— Emotional Whiplash, Red Flags, and Why Is Grace Still Entertaining This Man? ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had to physically take a break from this book because Cash was making me so angry.
At this point, he KNOWS Grace has feelings for him, and yet he repeatedly pushes her away, ghosts her, questions her integrity, and then comes back acting wounded and confused every single time she reacts emotionally to his behavior.
Sir. WHAT is the plan here?
Because at some point this stopped feeling romantic and started feeling emotionally exhausting.
Honestly, Cash has so many red flags.
The biggest issue for me is that marriage and long-term partnership require loyalty, consistency, and choosing your person even during moments of fear, confusion, insecurity, or anger. And Cash’s entire pattern is:
panic
run away
make assumptions
hurt Grace
disappear
come back emotionally spiraling
repeat
You cannot build a healthy relationship like that.
And Grace?
Girl.
PLEASE take a year off from men.
At this point I honestly wanted her to focus on:
herself
therapy
her business
her apartment
her friendships
literally anything besides emotionally unstable rich men
Because Hanson honestly seemed sweeter, more emotionally available, and significantly less chaotic.
Meanwhile Cash keeps acting like:
commitment is terrifying
communication is impossible
random hookups solve emotional problems
and money can repair emotional damage afterward
No sir.
And honestly, if someone only believes the truth once another person confirms it for them instead of trusting you, then what exactly is the foundation of that relationship supposed to be?
That’s not trust.
That’s insecurity.
The pregnancy storyline absolutely intensified the emotional chaos for me personally because I already struggle with pregnancy plots in romance novels. Watching Cash immediately assume the worst instead of supporting Grace just made everything even more frustrating.
And can we PLEASE talk about the ex-husband tampering with birth control?
Why was everyone acting like that was just unfortunate drama instead of an actual horrifying violation?
I would have absolutely raised hell over that situation.
Instead, we somehow end up back in the cycle of:
Cash hurts Grace →
Cash spirals →
Cash panics →
Cash spends money →
Cash stalks emotionally →
Cash wants forgiveness
Repeat forever apparently.
The line:
“If there is a ring consider my hat tossed in.”
Honestly made me laugh because at this point EVERYONE seems more emotionally stable than Cash.
That said… despite all my frustration, I was undeniably emotionally invested the entire time. The drama is messy, chaotic, and emotionally volatile enough that I kept needing to know what disaster was happening next.
But wow.
This relationship gave me emotional whiplash.
